Neighbors,
It was just a month ago that I was helping residents recovering from tear gas before reporting to Humboldt Park Health to support a man who suffered a catastrophic injury from being chased by ICE. While there are still so many horrible atrocities that families are facing across Chicago and Illinois, I feel a bit of relief after Judge Ellis’ preliminary injunction. It is the continued work of the community’s documentation that has supported our families, from understanding where they are located to proving that people were unconstitutionally arrested. Thank you to all of you for standing up for our neighbors. |

The 2026 budget survey is live!
As we continue working for safety and justice, we’re also shaping a future that reflects our community’s values, starting with the City’s 2026 budget. I invite you to take 10-15 minutes to learn how the budget has been designed so that you can share your recommendations. There are a number of taxes, particularly the property tax, to weigh in on. The budget vote is currently scheduled for Friday, November 14. Take the survey here: bit.ly/26budgetsurvey |

ChiArts Update While we weigh the future of our city’s finances, we’re also celebrating an inspiring win for the arts and for our young people. Thanks to the hard work of organizing by students, parents, and staff, the Chicago Board of Education unanimously voted to approve the establishment of ChiArts as a district-managed performing arts school beginning in the summer of 2026.
As part of the vote, board members also amended the report language to enter into a robust community engagement process and explore financial options to maintain the conservatory as-is. This win is a reflection of what our community has been fighting for for decades: for self-determination and preservation of our cultural assets. My team has already connected with parents and will be planning community engagements to plan the future of ChiArts. Gratitude to everyone who made this happen, especially our brilliant students. |

Crosstown Trail Town Hall Our commitment to equity extends beyond classrooms; it reaches into the spaces we share. On Thursday, Friends of the Crosstown Trail, Commissioner Jessica Vasquez, and I will co-host a virtual town hall on the proposed Crosstown Trail. We are in the early stages of this proposal, and it’s vital to center housing protections if the project moves forward. |

Garbage Collection Notice for Veterans Day And while we plan for long-term change, it’s also the small steps that keep our community strong and clean. In observance of Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11, the City’s sanitation team will pause garbage collection. Please remember to place your bins out starting Monday to avoid any missed pickups. We appreciate your help in keeping our ward clean and running smoothly! |

While the federal government withholds food from working families, our community is showing up, feeding one another, supporting one another, and refusing to turn away. We will keep sharing resources and updates for as long as they are needed.
If you need food assistance, visit chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food to locate free groceries, hot meals, and food pantries near you. You can also connect directly with our local mutual aid networks and community partners: Humboldt Park Solidarity Network, El Mercadito, UN26 Mutual Aid, National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture Coat Drive, Logan Square Mutual Aid If you are in a position to give, please consider donating to the Greater Chicago Food Depository or to any of the mutual aid networks above. Your contribution helps feed families right here in our neighborhoods. For immediate help with food, clothing, or crisis support, call 2-1-1 or text 898-211. Together, we will keep showing up for one another with the care, dignity, and love we deserve. |

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
|
|
|
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process.
This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.
You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking. |

The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |
