There is so much happening across our community, and I am grateful to share some updates with you. This past Monday, I had the honor of serving as the keynote speaker for Salute to Latinas: Fuerza de La Mujer, hosted by the sisters of Delta Tau Lambda Sorority, Inc. at NEIU. Their theme, De Aquí Somos, was a beautiful celebration of pride, belonging, and Latina leadership. They shared a family-centered presentation on their sisterhood, highlighting their scholarship program and community service.
The night felt especially meaningful as it was held at the Pedroso Center, a space I helped bring into existence by organizing and leading the student sit-in that pushed the university to create it. To return now and see Latina leaders thriving here was profoundly moving. I left inspired by their unity, their vision and their commitment to lifting our communities higher. |

Community Safety Town Hall
I will be hosting a Community Safety Town Hall on Wednesday, November 19th, in partnership with Commissioner Vásquez, Senator Guzman, and Representative Jiménez. Neighbors will receive important legislative updates from across all levels of government and participate in one of two hands-on safety workshops: Whistle Kit Making or Community Watch. IDJ Card Signing
Our commitment to safety does not end with policy conversations. It extends to the families who carry the weight of incarceration and continue to show love in hard places. State Rep Lilian Jimenez and I have been working quietly behind the scenes with families of folks who are wrongfully incarcerated, and tomorrow they are hosting a holiday card signing. If you are looking for a way to share joy, join them for food, music, and fun at this family-friendly event to send love to the ones on the other side of the wall. |

Update on the ICE Ruling
Also, I want to share an urgent update that impacts the safety and rights of our neighbors. The Nava settlement was approved in 2022 after ICE carried out warrantless vehicle stops and arrested hundreds of people without cause. The settlement created strict protections to stop these abuses from happening again.
This week, a federal judge ruled that ICE violated those protections and ordered a review and potential release of individuals who were detained without a warrant or proper legal basis. This ruling is not a new settlement. It is the court enforcing the rights that our communities fought for and won.
None of this happened by chance. It happened because people organized. It happened because families spoke out, legal advocates pushed forward, and communities refused to stay silent. And we will continue that work. In the 26th Ward, we will not allow ICE to turn our neighborhoods into zones of fear or to militarize racism under the guise of public safety.
Every step forward in our ward comes from community. I am grateful for your voice, your courage and your commitment to each other. We rise together. |

The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process.
This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.

The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |
