Neighbors,

Spring is alive in the 26th Ward and so is the energy. From street improvements to new services and bold community decisions, we are moving forward together. Street sweeping season is officially underway and this year we are using a new grid system to make sure every block gets the attention it deserves.

President Preckwinkle Visits Paseo Boricua

Last week, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, Commissioner Tara Stamps, and former Commissioner Anthony Quezada visited Paseo Boricua to see the exciting projects currently in the works. Thank you to PRCC and NMPRAC for hosting and for your continued leadership.

Property tax exemptions

Shoutout to Cesareo from Cook County’s 8th District for spending the day with us helping neighbors complete their property tax exemption paperwork. We were able to help 15 households get the exemptions they deserve, which will lower their property tax bills. We even got to see the rewards of a successful property tax appeal filed last year! If you are still interested in receiving property tax exemption support before the April 21 deadline, you may call the Cook County 8th District at 312-603-6386 to schedule an appointment.

PrimeCare Zoning Decision

Thank you to all the residents who shared feedback on PrimeCare Community Health’s proposal at 1750 N Springfield Ave and 1748 through 1756 N Harding Ave.

After reviewing the input from our public meetings and online survey, I have made the decision not to move forward with a zoning change for this proposal. I appreciate PrimeCare’s engagement in our community-led process and their willingness to respond to resident concerns. I remain committed to expanding access to quality healthcare in the 26th Ward and will continue exploring opportunities where this type of project can grow.

Federal Support Comes to the 26th Ward

I’m excited to share that starting this month, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez’s team will hold regular satellite office hours in the 26th Ward. On the first and third Wednesday of every month, you can meet directly with her staff at our shared office with State Representative Lilian Jiménez at 2511 W Division Street.

Need help with Social Security, immigration paperwork, tax issues, VA benefits, or federal student loans? Her office is here to support you. Let’s make sure you are receiving the services and resources you are entitled to. Stop by and let us help.

Humboldt Park Improvements on the Way

Last week, the Humboldt Park Patriots, Humboldt Park Advisory Council, and Chicago Park District’s executive team joined our crew for a walkthrough of the park and field house. We are working on several exciting upgrades, and we cannot wait to share more soon.

Special thanks to Aurea, Patrick, Dale, Karl, Pat, Beth, Raquel, and Jesus for your vision and commitment to preserving the largest park in our ward.

Earthday Events

Make sure you are signed up for an upcoming Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday, April 26! We need EVERYONE’s help!

In solidarity,

Alderperson Jessie Fuentes

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project

The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process.

This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.

You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking.

26th Ward Zoning

The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting.

We are currently reviewing zoning change requests for the following properties.

Administrative ICE Warrant VS. Judicial Warrant

🔹 Administrative ICE Warrant (First Image - SAMPLE)

  • Issued by: DHS, not a court.

  • Purpose: Allows ICE to arrest for immigration violations.

  • Limitations: Does not allow entry into your home without consent.

  • Key Detail: Signed by an immigration officer, not a judge.

🔹 Judicial Warrant (Second Image)

  • Issued by: A U.S. District Court.

  • Purpose: Authorizes law enforcement to enter, search, or seize property/individuals.

  • Authority: Signed by a judge, allows entry without consent.

⚠️ Why It Matters:
An ICE administrative warrant does not grant officers the right to enter your home—only a judicial warrant does. Always ask to see the warrant, verify details, and seek legal help if needed. For assistance, contact legal professionals or trusted community organizations.
