Cicero Avenue Land use Study On Tuesday, our office joined the Department of Planning & Development (DPD) and neighbors at Lloyd Elementary to discuss the Cicero Avenue Land Use Study—a 2.75-mile vision from what the future of Cicero can look like from Irving Park to the Grand/Cicero Metra station.
We heard what many of you have been saying: Cicero feels like a four-lane highway dominated by vacancies and auto uses, and we need safer crossings, trees and green space, and more places to eat, shop, and gather. The study DPD is working on can help shift Cicero from car-dominated to people-centered—and we need your voices! Remember to share your thoughts and submit this survey by Sept. 30, and look out for a report with full findings and a second community meeting next Spring. |

Submit Your Participatory Budgeting Ideas by Tuesday, September 30 I am collecting ideas for our 2026 infrastructure menu! For the second year, I am allocating $500,000 of infrastructure money to participatory budgeting so that all 26th Ward residents over the age of 14 can vote on in December.
Be take into consideration the cost and feasibility of your ideas. As you may know, construction materials have increased, so what may have been a small project may now cost twice as much. Feasibility examples include North Avenue projects, which must be approved by IDOT, and Park District projects, which may need to be approved by park advisory councils. Last year’s ideas and feasibility notes may be reviewed here. |

Red Tree Celebration in Mozart ParkSponsored by Oliva Gallery and Mozart Park Advisory Council, Red Tree Celebration was recently installed in Mozart Park! The monumental stainless steel sculpture was created by Ruth Aizuss Migdal, standing 17 feet tall and 7 feet wide. Painted in vivid red and protected with a powder coat and UV top coat, the work embodies movement, vitality, and the enduring strength of the feminine form. The sculpture evokes an abstract, celebratory tree, radiating energy in all directions and serving as both a landmark and a gesture of communal uplift. Rooted directly into the grass at the southeast corner of Mozart Park, the sculpture invites interaction, visibility, and reflection.
Positioned at a highly visible and accessible site, Red Tree Celebration can be viewed from thesoutheast corner of the park and is clearly visible from the adjacent train line and the 606 Trail in Chicago. The work sits within two blocks of four schools and is situated at the convergence of four neighborhoods: Hermosa, Avondale, Logan Square, and Humboldt Park. Resulting in enhanced reach and resonance with a diverse cross-section of the city. |
