This week, our ward office attended the 2026 After School Matters Summer Showcase at the Orleans Teen Center. Young people shared their research on important issues affecting Chicagoans, including gentrification, cultural preservation, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

In addition to these thoughtful policy presentations, we enjoyed incredible artwork, fashion, and woodworking created by Chicago high school students, as well as delicious food prepared by students in the culinary program. Our office is incredibly proud of ASM and celebrates its 35 years of providing enrichment, creativity, and opportunities for Chicago's high school students. Congratulations to all the students, educators, and staff who made this year's showcase such a success!

IHCC Business Expo

Back to School Savings Through August 16

Illinois is running a state sales tax holiday from August 7 through August 16. The state portion of sales tax drops from 6.25% to 1.25% on qualifying clothing and footwear under $125 per item, plus school supplies with no price cap. Upcoming Youth Events

As we head into the weekend, here are a few youth events for your students to attend, including not one but TWO back-to-school bashes to start the school year right!

On August 12, our Community Roses Youth Town Hall will be hosted by Bikes N’ Roses youth and my interns. They are opening their doors to their bike shop to showcase what they’ve learned this summer and will lead the conversation on what they need.

And finally, on Thursday, August 13, our 4th Annual Back-To-School Bash will take place at Marine Leadership Academy, where we’ll be giving out free backpacks, supplies, haircuts, dental checks, games, food, and so much more. See our flyers below for more details and have a beautiful weekend.

The 26th Ward's community-led zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting.
