As we move deeper into the holiday season, I want to invite you to support the people and places that keep our ward strong. Small businesses are the heart of our communities, and they are still suffering immense consequences from ICE presence. While we are fortunate to have hundreds of small businesses in the 26th Ward, if we do not continue to shop small, they will not survive. As you prepare for the holidays, I invite you to consider a few actions that will have a great impact:

Participatory Budgeting
We are preparing another tool for community power: participatory budgeting. My team has had a snag in finalizing the participatory budgeting ballot. Who knew creative water management ideas could be so complex! As work on the final touches with our respective city departments, read about what ranked choice voting is and familiarize yourself with the process by practicing. Investing in our ward means more than improving streets and parks, it also means strengthening the systems that protect our families. This week, the community safety committee met to discuss several exciting projects, including the launch of Narcan vending machines at North & Pulaski, Division & California, and North & California. These machines will provide lifesaving medication to opioid overdose. We continue to grow our rapid response work with BUILD and the Northwest Side Rapid Response Team. Together, we train residents, canvas neighborhoods, and prepare families with information and resources that protect our community. As the city struggles to balance the budget, we stand up for violence-prevention programs and advocate for sustainable funding that supports youth jobs, safety initiatives, and long-term community wellness. Your voice matters!
We invite you to join us in sharing information, contacting alderpersons, and protecting the needs of our community. We also address domestic violence concerns in our community and will host a DFSS-led training to recognize abuse and support survivors. Domestic violence affects all of us, and we stand together to create safety and care for every family. Finally, we encourage you to take part in upcoming community events, including holiday dinners, coat drives, wellness programs, and workshops offered by partners such as ALSO, BUILD, PRCC, Rincon Family Services, and New Life Centers. Office Closure and Hours
As we put the final touches on that process, I also want to make sure you know our schedule for the week ahead. In observance of Days in Solidarity with Native Americans, the office will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28.

Winter Senior Gala
Reminder, if you are a senior, I invite you to attend this year’s Winter Senior Gala on Thursday, December 11th from 12-3pm. Illinois is making important changes to the SNAP (food assistance) program that may affect current recipients. Some households will be required to update income, household information, or employment status to keep their benefits active. See graphics below for more information. |

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
|
|
|
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process.
This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.

The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |
