Neighbors,
Thank you to everyone who commented, called, and emailed my office in support of my statement about the unprecedented visit by the Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday. I sit with a heavy heart in the aftermath of the federally sanctioned brutality. Those who were illegally detained were under the impression that they were attending their ISAP check-ins at 2245 S. Michigan. They were then separated from their attorneys and transported to an unknown location. My colleagues and I attempted to interrupt and get more information, only to be met with aggression and hostility by masked ICE agents.
This horrible display of violence does absolutely nothing to help our communities. I cannot emphasize this enough. To see the humanity in a person is to understand that they contain a constellation of connections, that if one person is disappeared, then these connections are broken, and are destroyed. My whole heart goes to the connections broken. Know that elected officials are working hard to fight back and hold accountable the authorities who have harmed our communities.
The best way to fight against fear is to be informed and build community. Please call the Family Support Hotline if your family member has been taken by ICE or you suspect ICE presence: 855-435-7693. |

Next Saturday, June 14, the Puerto Rican People’s Day Parade returns to Division Street and you don’t want to miss it. This is one of the most powerful, joyful, and vibrant celebrations of culture in our city.
Every year, we come together not just to march, but to honor our roots, lift up our people, and celebrate what it means to be Puerto Rican in Chicago. From music to movement, from families to floats, the energy is unmatched. Bring your loved ones, wave your flags, and walk with pride through the heart of Barrio Borikén. We’ll see you in the street.

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
|
|
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process.
This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods.
You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking. |
|
|
The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |

Community Survey: 3340 W North Thanks to everyone who joined our June 4th community meeting regarding a new retail development proposed at 3340 W North. We had a productive conversation about revitalizing the commercial corridor, supporting small businesses, new infrastructure improvements for enhancing pedestrian, bike, and traffic safety, and we brainstormed ideas for what we’d like to see on the still vacant lot at that corner. If you missed the meeting, you can still share your input here: tinyurl.com/north3340
