From lifesaving trainings to new community art spaces, and of course, getting our students ready to head back to school, there's a lot to share this week.

How to Save a Life

We started the week with a visit from Gail and Richard from the West Side Heroin/Opioid Task Force, who taught staff and interns the practices of how to administer naloxone (also known as Narcan) to someone experiencing an opioid overdose. As a reminder, we have five Naloxone Newsstands in the 26th Ward. Every life saved is a chance for recovery.

Little Art Exchange at Campbell and Potomac

In the winter, LeShonne and Adrian’s 8-year-old daughter had a lovely idea of installing a little library for art supplies, and thanks to their hard work, it is now available! Stop by Campbell and Potomac to drop off art supplies that have sat in your closet or have your child pick up a few items to be creative. I love to see our neighbors step up and support their communities in creative ways.

Community Roses Youth Town Hall on August 12

Join Bikes N’ Roses youth and our office at the Community Roses Youth Town Hall on Wednesday, August 12! Interns from both BNR and my office have been working hard to organize the event, which will include immigration and cycling resources and workshops on how to fix your bike. All ages welcome, and neighbors under 24 are highly encouraged to attend. Free limited-edition sticker for the first 50 attendees! 🖼️🌹

Block Parties

Summer is winding down, and we want to make sure you have your block parties while you can! Our office has been visiting your block parties, and we’ll continue to do so as we enjoy the tacos, hot dogs, and camaraderie our block parties create between neighbors. To have your block party, head over to our city services page, download the block party permit, and submit it to info@the26thward.org.

Back to School Bash

Summer ending means families are preparing to send their students back to school. I’m excited to announce our 4th Annual Back to School Bash in collaboration with Senator Omar Aquino and State Representative Lilian Jimenez.

Join us August 13th from 2 pm to 5 pm at MLA, 1920 N. Hamlin for:

The 26th Ward's community-led zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting.
