Neighbors,
This Memorial Day weekend, Chicago made it through without a single homicide for the first time in at least decade. Our ward was part of that. Five new Narcan stands, 31 years of ALSO Peace Walks, and a community that shows up for each other. Here's what we got into this week. |

Harm Reduction through Narcan Newsstands Last week we unveiled FIVE Narcan newsstands across the 26th Ward. Narcan can reverse an opioid overdose and is now accessible to you at no cost without any questions. We’ve lost too many people to the opioid crisis and we are committed to caring for one another.
We’ve added the newsstands to our assets map — thank you to Association House, BUILD, CTS Health, New Life Centers, and PRCC VPI for maintaining the stands. Our community is healthier and safer because of every one of you. |

Walk for Peace Into a Safe Memorial Day Weekend In Chicago ALSO held their annual Peace Walk and we celebrated with a cookout! Ensuring safe weekends is achieved by the year round work of violence prevention organizations. We had face painting, haircuts, food, boxing, basketball, and pure joy for our youth and their families. Our whole community helped make this weekend amazing. |

Pop-Up for Peace Recap
On Wednesday, we hosted a Pop-Up for Peace near Kilbourn and Homer. It was an opportunity to bring neighbors together, connect residents with resources, and continue showing up for a block that has experienced recent violence. I had the pleasure of speaking with so many neighbors. People shared their concerns, but they also shared their commitment to the community and their desire to see the block thrive. Those conversations reminded me that the majority of residents want the same thing: safe streets, strong relationships, and a neighborhood where families can feel comfortable spending time outdoors.
Reclaiming space matters. Every time neighbors come together, they help build the sense of community that makes our neighborhoods stronger and safer. Wednesday's event was a reminder that we are at our best when we show up for one another and work collectively to create the community we all need and deserve. We keep us safe! |

The 26th Ward's community-led zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |
