Neighbors, Join us tomorrow for a day full of joy, community, and celebration! We’re excited to host ALSO’s 30th Annual Peace Walk alongside the 26th Ward’s 3rd Annual Memorial Day Weekend Cookout. Thanks to the support of our generous sponsors, we’ll have a skating rink, two bouncy houses, face painting, human soccer, delicious food, and live performances by Lowell Elementary’s band and choir plus a DJ to keep the energy high all afternoon. Events like these are vital for our young people, offering meaningful ways to connect with neighbors and classmates in a safe, positive environment. The Peace Walk kicks off at 1:30 PM and will conclude at the Boathouse, where the festivities begin. We hope to see you there! |

Community Safety Town Hall at Blackhawk Park We kicked off the week with an important conversation on community safety alongside Alder Felix Cardona at Blackhawk Park. We are excited to share that crime in the 25th District is down, with burglaries dropping by 58%. I stressed the importance of prevention strategies and thanked local community organizations for their crime prevention efforts. In the 26th Ward, we continue to work closely with residents to identify and address public safety concerns. In partnership with violence prevention organizations, we are directing resources to areas that need care and attention. The recent decline in crime is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Chicago Police Department and our violence prevention initiatives. 25th District Commander Andaverde reassured residents that they will increase patrols in neighborhoods experiencing higher crime rates. Residents are encouraged to call 911 and share detailed reports to help guide the police response. 25th District is working on piloting a program that may allow residents to receive text alerts about upcoming police beat meetings so that they can share their concerns. For our local businesses, I have been helping them apply for grants and improve public spaces, and Alder Cardona is leading efforts to revitalize the Cicero corridor and hold property owners accountable. I know that both Alder Cardona and I will continue to remain active partners in public safety. Together, We Keep Us Safe! |

Just Cause Ordinance At City Council, we turned our attention to housing justice with the introduction of the Just Cause Eviction Ordinance. At City Council this week, Alder Yancy introduced the Just Cause Eviction Ordinance, which would enhance protections for tenants. We know from research that one of the leading factors of longterm housing instability is eviction. When a tenant is evicted due to no fault of their own, they face unexpected costs related to a new housing search in an already shrinking and costly housing market. This ordinance would create a rental registry so tenants can easily find their landlord, require landlords to provide reasons for eviction, and require landlords to assist with relocation fees if the eviction or lease termination is not due to any fault of the tenant. This is common sense legislation that I am proud to sponsor. |

Ward Night Pop-Up at Tropical Taste On Thursday, we held another energizing Ward Night with support from the 11th District Police and a big thank you to the team at Tropical Taste for hosting us in their beautiful restaurant. Neighbors raised important concerns about parking enforcement, including the need to protect disabled parking spaces, speeding along North Avenue, and sanitation issues in alleys and with littering. We also shared updates on our new grid based street sweeping system, which is designed to bring more consistent and efficient service across the ward. We encouraged residents to download the 311 app, a great tool to request city services like pothole repairs, new garbage bins, and more, right from your phone. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Your voice drives our work forward. |
Parent Mentor Graduation We also took time to celebrate the heart of our schools, our incredible parent mentors. Thank you to all of the parent mentors who work tirelessly to support our students, staff, and educational leaders across the 26th Ward! My staff was able to celebrate at Palenque LSNA’s 63rd Congress and Northwest Center’s Parent Mentor Graduation. ¡Felicidades! |

Cuts to Medicaid: Message from Congresswoman Delia Ramirez “Last night, while Americans were sleeping, House Republicans passed a bill that cuts $1.5T in funding for Medicaid and food assistance - which takes food away from working families and kicks 14 million people off their healthcare. All to give billions away in tax breaks to their ultra-wealthy donors. Working families in #IL03 and across the nation will be the ones left to suffer the consequences of Republicans' budget while billionaires get richer. 28,000 in my district alone will lose healthcare coverage. 69,000 families and children risk losing access to food assistance. This bill is a huge betrayal to working people. I am urging the Senate to stand with the people and reject this horrible budget. This fight is not over”. Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Respectfully, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez |
With that message, we are grateful that we are a ward that knows how to fight and how to care. Whether it’s advocating for safety, dignity, housing, or nourishment. We are in this together. As always, if you have questions, concerns, or want to get involved, reach out. My office is here for you. In solidarity, Alderperson Jessie Fuentes |

Boulevard Landmark District Extension Project |
The “Logan Square Boulevards District” is a significant part of our community's history and character. An extension of this Landmark District is currently being considered. This process typically takes 6 to 9 months and includes communication and notices throughout the process. This project builds on decades of historic preservation work and reflects the ongoing commitment of the 26th Ward to encouraging sustainable development and maintaining the unique identity of our neighborhoods. You can learn more about the project, review FAQs, and submit your thoughts at the26thward.org/boulevard-landmarking. |

The 26th Ward's zoning process requires anyone requesting a zoning change to first complete a zoning intake form. After review, they present their request to the Zoning Advisory Committee and answer questions. In some cases, they may also present at a community input meeting. |
